JAX BAR and GRILL: On the corner of Medina. Enjoy the ocean view from the second-level balcony. Good food, legendary fish tacos and a great HUGE $7 hamburger. SERGIO’S PLAYA SOL: Beach bar/restaurant with good food and SUPER guacamole. It is a rustic thatched-roof building sitting at the edge of a wide beach. Free hammocks and beach chairs for food/drink customers.

PUBLIC MARKET has several small good restaurants. A few are Carolina, San Martin, and Alexis y Geovanny.

BALLY HOO dine on a dock on the water, comfortable atmosphere, great 3 for $4 fish tacos, margaritas $3.75.

MEDINA TACOS: downtown on Hidalgo is reported to have great low priced tacos.

LA LOMITA has wonderful chiles rellenos, bean and pork soup, and their hangover cure, Cerveza con Haberno.

PLAYA LANCHEROS: It is famous for Tikkin-Xic (fish filet prepared Mayan BBQ style); one order feeds two, $7

SAC BAJO BEACH: Snorkeling tour beach buffet lunch location of www.cancunalltours.com

PUERTO JUAREZ FERRY: The bus with R-1 in the front window will take you right to it. $7 rd. trip to Isla M.

LORENZILLO’S: Famous for lobster, EXPENSIVE. Some good and many BAD reviews.  Menu.

LA PALAPA BELGA: Walk thru the Imperial Laguna Hotel to a small (10 table) open air restaurant with stunning views. This “hidden find” has excellent Yucatan fare. Great food and drinks! Reservations recommended. Website: http://lapalapabelga.com/ubicacion.htm  

PUNTA CANCUN (THE PARTY ZONE)

MEXTREME: Open air, large place. Good food, great nachos and drinks. A great little rock band plays there nightly, no cover.

XTABENTUN: Small (locals) outdoor rest. across from My Place. Excellent for tacos and fajitas.

MOCAMBO’S: Beachfront seafood rest. Gorgeous views. Delicious large portions reasonable prices.

CASA TEQUILA: Authentic Mexican casual sit down inexpensive rest. Facing the lagoon. Great tacos and traditional breakfasts. Highly recommended. Across the street from Plaza La Fiesta.

EL TACOLOTE: Another authentic Mexican restaurant in the party area.   Per Fodor's, a great place to stop for lunch, this popular taqueria (taco stand) sells delicious fajitas, grilled kebabs, and all kinds of tacos. The salsa, which comes free with every meal, is fresh and muy picante (very hot). Ask for the two-person parrillada, a hearty sampler of barbecued meat, which comes with all the beer you can guzzle in one hour.

MY PLACE: Popular Karaoke bar/grill with casual and fun atmosphere. Sunday football food specials, 2x1 beer. Tequila tastings on Tuesday $20. Creative Tequila drinks from Teo, their chief mixologist.  Update - sadly, we note: Closed on 8/10/2007.

CAMBALACHE: Near Hard Rock in forum mall. GREAT steaks, try the ribeye for two, amazing, or the 19 oz. suckling pig on a spit, or the big BBQ ribs. They also own Puerto Madero, seafood and steaks.  Menu.

BUBBA GUMPS: Try their special Bloody Mary called “Alabama Sunrise”. Also good American food including bbq ribs. http://www.bubbagump.com/menu.html

SANBOURN'S: Across from the Flamingo Hotel. Family style Mexican food. All you can eat breakfast buffet including chilequillas, $11.

PAT O’BRIEN’S: In the Plaza Flamingo Mall. Steaks, bbq ribs, http://www.patobriens.com/cancun.html

LA MADONNA: “THE” restaurant for OSSO BUCO!!!!!!!!!!! Good pizzas for $10 also.  http://www.lamadonna.com.mx/

LA CASA de las MARGARITAS: Authentic Mexican reasonably priced rest. It is in a nice atmosphere with entertainment starting at 6:30 pm. Sunday 12 to 5, a traditional Mexican dinner including pozole. MR. PAPA’S: In the La Isla Mall. Low priced fajitas, tacos, burgers, seafood, and HUGE baked potatoes.

EL FISH FRITANGA: Small bar/restaurant on the lagoon. Great low priced fish tacos and camaroncillas.

LA PLACITA: Great Mexican lunch specials and margaritas with a kick, just across from the Royal Sands.

HACIENDA SISAL: Number #1 rated Mexican restaurant in Cancun. $11 breakfast buffet in Royal Sands.  Menu.

CONVENIENCE STORE/SMALL MARKET: BEST tacos, carnitas, and arrachera in the Hotel Zone across from the Ritz Carlton Hotel. They have American beer and are open 24 hours.

PUERTO MADERO: Great Maine Lobster and Steaks. Super food and service with excellent lagoon views. Menu.

CONQUISTADOR: The ULTIMATE DINING EXPERIENCE. For Royal Hotel guests only. Get a reservation as soon as you arrive at the Royal Sands if you’re up to this CULINARY EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

J C CAPITAN: Wonderful fresh and well prepared seafood and killer spot for lagoon sunset views, with reasonable prices (CASH ONLY). It is a small place and the dining room is a palapa. It is located at 19.5km and is across from the Beach Paradise Hotel. Reservations are a must.

SUSHI

HANAICHI is the best in the Hotel Zone, which is near Dady-O’s in the Party Zone near the Convention Center.
